Love Story

"It was no exotic or terrible thing, to be friends with the rats, but Father was suspicious of the woman upstairs regardless. The proximity of rodents indicated secret spaces about in which things could be hoarded, he said, and any object, impulse, or thought that someone felt compelled to tuck away under floorboards or behind antique glass display cabinets in attics was surely not fit to exist at all."

Revelation 6:7-8

"When the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse rolled into town on a blue-skied Monday morning in April, the trees were budding, the air smelled like beginnings, and nobody could be bothered to care about them. It Is Possible to Start from Great Wealth and Privilege and Rise to the Highest Office in the Land: An American Musical

"Every now and then - once about every four years, it seems - some asinine clunker of a show begins to claw its way upward from the shadowy backwaters of off-off Broadway towards the Great White Way. Often they don't make it far.

But occasionally, one survives."

August

"Elise bikes to town, and in Walgreens the boy at the register is covered in spiraling tattoos that nobody notices except under flickering fluorescents. His name is Adam, or maybe Prometheus. He doesn’t wear a name tag. He doesn’t need one. 'There’s a body in the woods behind my house,' Elise tells him.

'Aisle three,' he says."

we were just waiting for your permission"
